Level Up Your Lab Skills: The SMART Repro Spring Training Series is Here!

Spring is around the corner, and you know what that means, breeding season is heating up! Whether you're a veterinarian looking to add reproductive services to your practice, a tech ready to master advanced techniques, or a progressive producer who wants to take control of your own herd's genetics, now is the time to level up your lab skills.

We're thrilled to announce the SMART Reproduction Sheep & Goat Spring Training Series, happening March 13-19, 2026, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This is your chance to get hands-on training with cutting-edge reproductive technologies for small ruminants, no more wondering if you're "doing it right." You'll leave confident, competent, and ready to crush your breeding goals.

What's Included: Six Power-Packed Sessions

This isn't your average workshop. We've designed a comprehensive week of training that covers the full spectrum of advanced reproductive techniques for sheep and goats. Each session is laser-focused on a specific skill set, so you can pick and choose what you need or go all-in for the complete experience.

Here's the lineup:

March 13: Laparoscopic Artificial Insemination (Lap AI)
Kick off the series with one of the most efficient methods for artificial insemination in small ruminants. You'll learn proper technique, equipment handling, and how to achieve optimal conception rates using laparoscopic AI.

March 14: Transcervical Artificial Insemination (TCAI)
Master the non-surgical approach to AI. This technique is gaining traction for its animal welfare benefits and versatility, especially in dairy goat and sheep operations where you want to minimize stress and maximize results.

March 17: Laparoscopic Ovum Pick-Up (LOPU)
Get comfortable with oocyte collection, a game-changer for accelerating genetic progress in elite animals. LOPU is essential if you're serious about embryo transfer programs or working with high-value genetics for export markets.

March 18: Semen Collection & Andrology
The boys matter too! Learn proper semen collection techniques, evaluation protocols, and andrology best practices. Whether you're working with Boer goats or hair sheep, understanding male fertility is critical to your breeding program's success.

March 19 AM: Embryo Collection & Grading
Morning session focuses on the art and science of embryo collection and quality assessment. You'll get hands-on practice identifying viable embryos and understanding grading standards, essential skills for anyone working in embryo transfer.

March 19 PM: Embryo Transfer
Wrap up the week with embryo transfer techniques. You'll practice proper handling, placement, and post-transfer protocols to maximize pregnancy rates and get those elite genetics into recipient does and ewes.

Two Ways to Learn: In-Person or Virtual

We know everyone's schedule and learning style is different, so we're offering two participation options:

In-Person (Hands-On): This is where the magic happens. You'll work with live animals, use professional-grade equipment, and get direct coaching from our team. All supplies are provided, and we've got synchronized animals ready for each session so you can practice on the real deal. Located at 1293 Greene 333 RD, Jonesboro, Arkansas, our facility is fully equipped for world-class training.

Virtual (Audit): Can't make it to Arkansas but don't want to miss out? Join us virtually! You'll observe all sessions in real-time, ask questions, and access recordings afterward. Perfect for teams who want multiple staff members trained or international attendees working in different time zones.

Who Should Attend?

This training series is designed for doers, people who are ready to take their skills and their operations to the next level:

  • Veterinarians expanding into small ruminant reproduction
  • Veterinary technicians looking to specialize in reproductive services
  • Progressive producers who want hands-on control of their breeding programs
  • Women in ag building their expertise and confidence (yes, we see you, #AgricultHER!)
  • Export-focused operations working with elite Boer goat, dairy goat, and sheep genetics
  • Anyone serious about artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and genetic advancement

The small ruminant industry is booming: especially in niche markets like dairy goat cheese production, Boer goat meat export, and hair sheep for sustainable agriculture. Having these skills in your toolkit opens doors to higher-value clients, better genetics, and more control over your breeding outcomes.

Why Train with SMART Reproduction?

Let's be real: you could watch YouTube videos or read textbooks, but there's no substitute for hands-on training with a team that's actually doing this work every single day.

SMART Reproduction isn't just a training facility: we're a USDA-inspected, EU and UK-certified genetics lab actively working with clients worldwide. We've shipped genetics to Italy (the first small ruminant germplasm from the USA to Italy EVER), we manage elite Boer goat and dairy goat herds, and we're in the field doing semen collection, embryo transfer, and LOPU on a regular basis.

When you train with us, you're learning from practitioners, not just instructors. Our founder, Brittany Scott, brings over 15 years of experience in advanced reproductive technologies and teaches OPU/IVF techniques internationally. You're getting world-class training in a down-to-earth, supportive environment where questions are encouraged and confidence is built.

Jonesboro isn’t just where we work—it’s a global powerhouse for agriculture. This area is a major hub for international row crop industries like rice, corn, soybeans, and wheat, and it's home to industry giants like John Deere and Case-IH. If you’re looking to maximize your time here, we can even help arrange industry-specific meetings to help you make the most of your trip to the heart of Arkansas ag!

Plan Your Trip: Travel & Logistics

If you're traveling in for Spring Training, the easiest airport to fly into is Memphis International Airport (MEM).

Your Breeding Program Starts Here

Spring Training isn't just about learning techniques: it's about building confidence, expanding your capabilities, and positioning yourself (or your operation) as a leader in small ruminant reproduction. Whether you're performing your first laparoscopic AI or perfecting your embryo grading skills, this is where you go from "I think I can do this" to "I've got this."

The sheep and goat industry needs skilled professionals who can perform artificial insemination with precision, evaluate genetics with confidence, and execute embryo transfer programs that deliver results. The export market is growing. The demand for elite genetics is increasing. And the producers who have these skills in-house? They're the ones setting the pace.

See you in Jonesboro this March. Let's do this.
